Anita's Journey: From Finnish Movement to Adelaide Resilience

For Anita, movement has always been an intrinsic part of life. Growing up in Finland, an active lifestyle wasn’t a choice; it was simply the norm. Weekly school gymnastics, winter skiing, and summer cycling were ingrained in her childhood. A serendipitous discovery of a yoga handbook on a rainy day ignited a lifelong passion, even leading her to meet and marry her Indian husband in West Berlin in 1969.
Anita’s life has been a testament to constant motion, literally spanning continents and 33 homes! A talented opera singer in her youth, she later transitioned to teaching singing and piano after migrating to Australia with her young family, though she still occasionally graced the stage. Surrounded by her “amazing” children and growing family, Anita’s social life in Adelaide, South Australia is as full as her heart.
Overcoming Setbacks with Life Care’s Support
Despite her vibrant social life and close-knit family, Anita faced a significant challenge with a double fall in 2018. Her GP’s recommendation led her to Life Care for physiotherapy, marking a crucial turning point in her rehabilitation journey. While a subsequent hip replacement in 2024 triggered a return of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), Anita’s unwavering determination, coupled with Life Care’s support, has kept her moving forward.
The personal connection Anita found at Life Care has been pivotal to her progress. Her physiotherapist, Jan, provided invaluable support through home visits and subsequent clinic sessions. “Jan is the best, she is absolutely fabulous!” Anita enthusiastically shares, highlighting Jan’s insightful guidance and the deep trust she has in her care.
A Holistic Approach to Well-being
Today, Anita attends Life Care’s exercise classes twice a week, enjoying the benefits of continued movement and the “fantastic” massages offered. For Anita, Life Care is more than just a clinic; it’s a warm and welcoming community. She cherishes the cheerful atmosphere and the genuine care from everyone she encounters, from Karen at reception to every team member.
The addition of Life Care’s in-home support has further enhanced her well-being, providing comprehensive assistance that truly makes a difference. Anita’s gratitude is clear and heartfelt: she enthusiastically rates Life Care a “5+ stars” and is deeply thankful for the holistic support she has received, empowering her to continue living a fulfilling and active life in South Australia.
