SAHMRI Windows Project

Published: 20 Nov 2014

Most Australian families are affected in some way by diseases of the brain.

In our ageing society, dementia in particular is a growing reality for older people with memory loss often having a devastating impact on their loved ones.

To help address this disturbing trend, Life Care has chosen to support a major community-based campaign being run by the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI).

SAHMRI is the State’s flagship health and medical research institute in the new biomedical precinct in the west end of Adelaide.

This facility will accommodate more than 600 leading researchers with state-of-the-art equipment putting South Australia in the forefront of the fight against diseases and health issues that face our communities today.

To support its vision of transforming research into health, the institute has mounted the SAHMRI Windows Campaign.   It allows individuals, families, businesses and organisations to buy and dedicate an individual window in the landmark building on North Terrace.

Having purchased a window, a sponsor can determine where the funding should be directed in terms of the dedicated SAHMRI research pathways.

Through its purchase, Life Care has chosen to direct its support to the SAHMRI Mind and Brain clinical research theme to advance knowledge in psychiatry and neuroscience.

Chief Executive Officer, Allen Candy, said: “Life Care believes it is critical to have a vigorous and highly productive program of research in this field for the benefit of current and future generations of South Australians.”
